The myth of the white horse - written into the very bedrock of England, and with parallels in other lands and other cultures - is at the heart of Toogood’s new collaboration with the Italian linen lifestyle brand, Once Milano. Inspired by the graphic qualities of the pagan hillcarvings at Westbury and Uffingham, Toogood has designed a collection of ten limited edition appliqued quilts for Once Milano which will be shown at BDDW, the leading American furniture company, at this year’s Salone del Mobile, Milan. The graphic elements on the quilts, from cut and sewn Italian linen as well as hand-painting, are given free rein to explore various equine legends in an abstracted, painterly manner. An earthy palette of rich browns, grassy greens and chalky whites alludes to the collection’s roots in the English landscape, while the stories depicted encompass not just paganism but also the white horse’s role in the Christian, Hindu and Persian traditions.
The complementary range of luxurious bedding designed by Toogood for Once Milano will be available to buy from April and provides a creative extension for the land-art quilts. Exclusive pyjamas and dressing gowns complete the collection. Once Milano is an Italian lifestyle brand which specialises in exquisite handmade linen. The bedding collection is available to buy at www.oncemilano.com.
Launching at Salone del Mobile, April 4th- 9th, 10am- 8pm BDDW, Via Santa Marta 19/a, 20123, Milano
